Telangana is a region in south-central India, currently part of Andhra Pradesh state. The region is rich in natural resources such as rivers (Godavari, Krishna), Coal (makes up 20% of the coal deposits in the country), Limestone and forests (about 30% of the region is covered with thick forests). In spite of such richness in natural resources, today it is one of the poorest regions in the country, mainly, due to the exploitation and neglect of successive governments.
It is ironical that Hyderabad, fifth largest city in the country, an international IT hub is the main city of the region. Unfortunately, all the revenue that Hyderabad generates is diverted to other regions of the state. Currently, Telangana people are agitating for a separate state.
